The Orakei Village concept was designed for one of Auckland’s most prestigious suburbs. As part of a bigger masterplan, the village consists of a residential building, with an additional building for 30 serviced apartments.
The level of design for the marketing of the apartments needed to reflect superior quality and finish with a distinctive style to differentiate the apartments from competitors within the market.
Studio Design + Architecture’s team were responsible for a full selection package encompassing every aspect of the residences from finishes and associated detailing through to finer elements of furniture procurement, artwork and planting selection.
The resulting scheme was favourably received by a well versed developer client who commented that the scheme exceeded their expectations.
Studio Design + Architecture’s team relishes the opportunity to push expectation boundaries of design.
Matauri Bay House, Northland
Studio Design + Architecture’s team were appointed as architect and interior designer for a kiwi ‘bach’ in Matauri Bay situated just north of the Bay of Islands.
The brief was to design a relaxed fully furnished and fitted out house with three double bedrooms and a bunkroom, double garage, large indoor outdoor living and storage. The house sleeps twelve and needed 3 bathrooms and an outdoor shower. Large underground water storage tanks were installed and several skylights and a clerestory in the living space ensured a light fresh feel to the house. The floors are polished concrete with underfloor heating and large custom area rugs. The furnishings are comfortable but contemporary with being too hard edged. The ceilings are a combination of Cedar and painted plasterboard. The cedar and timber wall, ceiling and joinery finishes add a feeling of warmth and texture to the space.
The finishes to the exterior were stained plywood, zinc cladding and powdercoated steel and aluminium with UV rated glazing. The house nestles into the hillside at the back and spills down gracefully towards the sea. The outdoor areas are louvered to allow another outdoor covered space to sit.
